Schackappen is built for schools from the ground up. The teacher creates classes in the portal, shares a code, and students start playing immediately β without emails, passwords or data sharing.
No IT project. No installation. No parental consent forms.
Log in to the teacher portal, click "Create new class", name it. You get a code like PTSZ-5886.
Write it on the board or email the parents. Students go to skola.schackappen.se, click "I have a class code", enter it.
In the portal you see each student's stats in real time: number of games, wins, ELO, completed sagas, last active.
In the portal you see every student as a card: name, avatar, number of games, wins, ELO rating, completed sagas, stars, and last active.
Updates automatically every 30 seconds so you follow the class in real time during a chess lesson.
When a student leaves the class, you just click "Remove". No IT administrator needed.
Students start in The Forest and meet The Viking, The Dragon, The Bishop, The Queen and The King. Each saga teaches a piece and a basic tactic through story.
When the sagas are done, classic chess opens against the Stockfish engine β adjusted to each student's level. No frustrating opponents.
The "Catch Words" mode combines keyboard practice with chess: type the word correctly β get a move. Two school subjects in one exercise.
We've taken data minimization seriously. Students are not the product.
Data stored with Supabase in the EU. No transfers to third countries. GDPR-compliant from the ground up.
We only save first name and chosen avatar. No email, no personal ID, no class designation beyond what the teacher chose.
No third-party cookies. No ad pixels. No in-app purchases. Students are not a target to monetize.
Lgr22 (the Swedish national curriculum for elementary school) highlights problem solving, logical thinking and creativity as central to a student's development β particularly in math grades 1β3.
Chess is one of few tools that trains all these abilities in the same exercise: pattern recognition, planning several moves ahead, handling consequences of choices.
The Swedish Chess Federation has run "Chess in school" as a nationwide initiative since 1993, and organizes Schackfyran β described as one of the world's largest school chess tournaments, for grade 4.
